Obviously born a geek
We’ve been visiting the welikeplay grandparents, and I got around - as part of this great odyssey into play - to asking what my own play was like as a child. Apparently, and quite unsurprisingly, I was born a geeky with a slightly obsessive penchant for lego.
I find it interesting how this toy shaped my later thinking. As a teacher I was passionate about de-constructing philosophical ideas and religious practices down to the most basic 2×3 blocks. Then passing these ideas over to the pupils who would then build them up again to dizzying heights, with a greater understanding for having been the one to have put it together. As a web designer, I’ve been partial to content systems which you can bolt bits onto. And blogging is so much like tower building that some great lego-ists like Geek-dad have turned to their blog.
I wonder how tiara wearing lad and the ramp of doom child will think once they’re all growed-up?
